Robert van Tankeren, TMC

Title: Career development in industry: Revenge of the nerds
Session: Monday 5 October, 13:30

What does it take for a highly skilled academic professional to make it in the industry? How do the skills learned on universities translate to useful tools for development of both the person and the company?

Most people will focus their attention on the learned technical skills. What they overlook is how with the right knowledge, attitude ánd the help of so-called 'soft' skills, people will be able to make the difference, for themselves and for the company they are working for.

In this talk I want to focus on what TMC does to facilitate this, and how we, with our Employeneursmodel, help you to make a difference.

Robert works as a Director at TMC, responsible for the Physics competence. His main responsibilities include finding relevant consulting projects for the current population of physicists at TMC (called Employeneurs), active business development at current and new clients and recruiting of new Employeneurs. He's also responsible for the strategic development of TMC Physics. He has a background as an experimental physicist in material science.
